Feedback Links
Collect feedback quietly by sending target URLs to specific users, beta testers, or QA reviewers without displaying a public widget button.
Feedback Links allow you to gather user feedback on-demand. When your site is configured to keep the public widget hidden, generating a Feedback Link lets specific visitors see the TellBack feedback tab when they visit your site via the generated URL.
Note on naming:
While these are named Feedback Links in the dashboard and user guides, some internal TellBack code and database fields refer to them as review links.
How Feedback Links Work
Feedback Links work by appending a specific secure token to your site's URL:
https://my-site.com/?tb_review=SECURE_TOKEN_VALUE
When the TellBack client script loads on your page, it parses the URL query parameters. If it detects a valid tb_review token, it overrides the hidden widget settings to display the feedback button specifically for that visitor session.
Feedback Link Mode Behaviors
The behavior of Feedback Links depends directly on your Site's active Feedback Mode:
- collect_nothing (Off):
Feedback Links are completely disabled. You cannot generate new links, and any existing URLs containing atb_reviewtoken will fail to load the widget. Incoming visitor sessions remain blocked from tracking. - pageviews_only:
Allowed. Visitors using the Feedback Link can see the widget and submit full bug reports (screenshots, text, element paths, audio). Telemetry for other non-link site visitors remains strictly limited to pageviews. - sessions_hidden_widget:
Allowed. Link visitors see the widget and can submit feedback. Silent background context tracking remains active for all visitors. - full_feedback_mode:
Feedback Links are not creatable because the feedback widget is already public and visible to all site visitors by default.
Managing Feedback Links in the Dashboard
You can create, monitor, and rotate Feedback Links directly from your TellBack dashboard:
- Navigate to Settings > Feedback Links for your project.
- Click Generate Link.
- Choose the target destination page on your site.
- Copy the generated URL to send to your testers.
Token Expiry and Revoking
- Rotation & Revocation: If you want to stop receiving reports from a specific link, you can revoke or rotate the token from your dashboard settings. Once revoked, the token immediately becomes invalid, and the widget will no longer appear for users clicking that link.
- Expiry: You can set optional expiration dates when generating a link to limit the tester review window.
