Feedback Modes

Learn about the four widget telemetry levels and how to control user visibility, session tracking, and background telemetry.

To balance visitor privacy with debugging telemetry, TellBack offers four distinct feedback collection modes. You can configure these per site directly from your dashboard (Settings > Sites > Site Config).

Behavior Matrix

Detailed Telemetry Levels

1. collect_nothing (Off)

  • Telemetry: Completely disables all session creation, event recording, and pageview tracking.
  • Feedback: Public widget tab is hidden. Feedback Links are blocked.
  • Request Demo Independence: If Request Demo is enabled, the booking widget will load. Because feedback telemetry is disabled, visitors can schedule demos in a completely sessionless mode with zero tracking cookies or events collected.
  • Telemetry: Creates minimal sessions to log pageview URLs, routes, referrers, and device metadata. Background user events and screen replays are disabled.
  • Feedback: Public widget tab is hidden. However, Feedback Links can be generated. When a visitor navigates to your site via a Feedback Link, the feedback collection button will display.
  • Use Case: Best for lightweight analytics with opt-in feedback widgets via email campaigns.
  • Telemetry: Creates full telemetry sessions tracking behavioral clicks, scroll events, console errors, network latency, and screen replays.
  • Feedback: Public widget tab is hidden. Just like in pageviews_only, the widget remains hidden unless a user visits via a whitelisted Feedback Link.
  • Use Case: Perfect for private beta testing, staging checks, or recording user sessions quietly without cluttering the screen with floating buttons.

4. full_feedback_mode (Public feedback widget)

  • Telemetry: Full background session telemetry, click mapping, console error tracking, and replay generation.
  • Feedback: The public TellBack floating feedback widget tab is visible to all visitors. Users can click it at any time to draw screenshots, submit logs, and record audio feedback.
  • Feedback Links: Disabled from creation since the feedback widget is already public to all page visitors.

AI Settings & Media telemetry

Your Project AI Settings control whether screenshots, audio recordings, transcripts, and session metadata are included during Gemini task generation. Turning off AI settings will prevent developer prompts from referencing visual or audio context, but will not change client-side widget capture behavior.

Privacy Responsibility
Site owners are responsible for providing appropriate visitor notices and obtaining any required consent for feedback collection, pageview tracking, session context, replay, audio, screenshots, and AI processing.
